You need hosted location and ASN enrichmentEvaluate the IP2Location.io Free plan or keyless access. Both require attribution, and their basic proxy signal covers public proxies rather than the full detection portfolio.Keyless access is limited to 1,000 queries/day; the keyed Free plan lists 50,000/month.[3][5]
You need VPN, Tor or residential-proxy classificationSelect at least the .io Plus plan; choose Security for individual proxy details and datacenter fields.Free and Starter public-proxy detection do not include the full set of Plus/Security signals.API plans combine a monthly query allowance with plan-specific field access and paid overages.[5]
You need geolocation or proxy data locallyChoose the relevant IP2Location DB package or IP2Proxy PX package.Geolocation fields and detection fields belong to different database products; check Standard, Site and redistribution rights.Local products have annual package/license pricing, separate from API queries.[1][2][7]

documented capabilities

HTTP API
Delivery
Local IP2Location and IP2Proxy databases, plus the IP2Location.io JSON/XML API. The legacy IP2Location Web Service no longer accepts new registrations.[1][2][3][4]
Location data
The .io Free response includes country, region, city, postal code and coordinates. Local database fields depend on the DB package; API coordinates fall back to a capital-city coordinate when the city is unknown.[3][1]
ASN and network
The .io Free response includes ASN and AS name. Starter adds ISP, domain and usage type. Local database packages differ; the catalog includes ASN in DB26.[3][1]
Privacy signals
IP2Proxy is the related detection database family. In .io, Free and Starter detect public proxies; Plus adds VPN, Tor and residential-proxy classes; Security adds detailed proxy and datacenter fields.[2][5]
Access and free use
The .io API documents 1,000 keyless queries daily or 50,000 monthly on its keyed Free plan; both require attribution. LITE database downloads require a free account and are advertised for personal or commercial projects.[3][5][6]
Billing unit
The .io API counts queries within a monthly plan and adds paid overage blocks. Database subscriptions depend on package and license: Standard covers one server for internal use; Site covers controlled servers for internal use.[5][1][7]
IP versions
The current IP2Location.io API accepts IPv4 and IPv6. Confirm address-family coverage for the particular database edition before selecting local files.[3]
Database formats
The LITE comparison lists CSV, BIN and CIDR formats. Geolocation, IP2Proxy detection and ASN are distinct LITE downloads.[6]
Redistribution rights
The Master License Agreement distinguishes Standard and Site internal-use licenses from a separate Redistribution License.[7]
Legacy API migration
The legacy Web Service page directs new API customers to IP2Location.io. Its old trial and credit packages should not be used to plan a new integration.[4]

Billing: IP2Location.io has monthly API query allowances with paid overage blocks. Local database prices are annual and vary by data package and license; API access and database licenses are separate choices.

Outputs: json, xml, csv, bin, cidr

getting started

documentation reviewed
  1. Choose between the current IP2Location.io API and the specific local geolocation, proxy or ASN database.
  2. For .io, use a keyless request within its daily limit or create an account and pass the API key as a query parameter or Bearer token.
  3. Select the .io plan by required detection fields, then budget its monthly queries and overage blocks; add the required attribution for Free or keyless use.
  4. For local files, select the package, address-family coverage, format and license, then install a suitable reader or import process and arrange updates.

Requirements & limitations

  • The legacy IP2Location Web Service is closed to new registration; use the current .io documentation for a new API integration.
  • A Free-plan is_proxy value is narrower than the detection portfolio advertised for Plus and Security.
  • LITE offers limited fields. Its page gives conflicting monthly and semi-monthly update descriptions, so confirm the chosen download's refresh schedule.
  • Database license and format choices do not establish that every edition includes the same fields or IPv6 coverage.
  • When an API city is unknown, coordinates can fall back to the country's capital; do not interpret that as a precise endpoint location.
