You need a free lookup for a non-commercial projectUse the unauthenticated HTTP endpoint within its rate limit. The terms require both a non-commercial purpose and a non-commercial environment.Free use is limited to 45 requests/minute per caller IP.[2][3]
You need commercial use or HTTPSSubscribe to Pro and create an API key.Pro permits IP/origin restrictions; its unlimited-request offer remains subject to acceptable-use rules.Check the payment term: the published monthly equivalent assumes a 12-month purchase.[1]

documented capabilities

HTTP API
Delivery
Hosted API with JSON/JSONP, XML, CSV, text and PHP output options, plus batch queries.[1]
Location data
Country, region, city, postal code, coordinates and timezone fields are documented.[2]
ASN and network
ISP, organization, ASN/AS name, mobile and hosting fields. ASN fields can be empty for address blocks not announced in BGP tables.[2]
Privacy signals
The proxy boolean combines proxies, VPNs and Tor exit addresses. A separate hosting boolean covers hosting, colocation and datacenter addresses.[2]
Access and free use
The free endpoint needs no key, uses HTTP and permits non-commercial use at 45 requests per minute per caller IP. Pro adds commercial use, API keys and HTTPS.[2][3][1]
Billing unit
Pro advertises unlimited requests subject to its acceptable-use policy. The listed €13.3/month price is a monthly equivalent when paying for 12 months, excluding VAT.[1]
IP versions
A query can be an IPv4 address, IPv6 address or domain name.[2]
Rate-limit handling
The free endpoint returns X-Rl for remaining requests and X-Ttl for reset time. At zero remaining requests, stop until reset; repeated excess can cause a one-hour ban.[2]

Billing: Pro is a fixed-term subscription advertised with unlimited queries subject to acceptable-use rules. The displayed €13.3 monthly equivalent requires payment for 12 months and excludes VAT.

getting started

documentation reviewed
  1. Use Free only for an eligible non-commercial HTTP integration, or obtain a Pro account and key for commercial or HTTPS use.
  2. Choose the response format and requested fields, then supply an IPv4 address, IPv6 address or domain.
  3. Preserve the distinction between the combined proxy flag and the hosting flag.
  4. For Free, read X-Rl and X-Ttl and pause requests when the allowance reaches zero.

Requirements & limitations

  • The Free API is not authorized for a commercial environment, even if request volume is low.
  • The proxy flag cannot distinguish VPNs, ordinary proxies and Tor exits from one another.
  • Repeatedly exceeding Free limits can cause temporary blocking; Pro's unlimited requests still have acceptable-use conditions.
  • Reverse DNS is optional and can delay the response; ASN/AS name may be absent for unannounced blocks.
