You want location and hazard fields at low volumeStart with the IP Geolocation package's Base access and an account API key.Select the full endpoint for the Hazard Report. Do not substitute the separate no-key Free APIs package.10,000 requests per month on Base; package fields are not reserved for paid tiers.[1][2][3]
You need to display uncertainty on a mapUse the endpoint that includes the confidence area. The point array can encode several closed polygons. It estimates an area and is not a guaranteed boundary or a person's position.Confidence-area endpoint access follows the package's monthly request allowance.[1][2]
Your application exceeds Base's monthly volumeSelect a higher IP Geolocation request tier and decide whether to enable overages.Compare request budget rather than expecting a paid tier to unlock extra fields; examine applicable reuse restrictions.Bronze includes 100,000 requests for USD 29.95/month, plus optional overages.[2][4]

documented capabilities

HTTP API
Delivery
The IP Geolocation package offers key-authenticated REST APIs with JSON responses. Its plans also include GraphQL access.[1][2][3]
Location data
The full endpoint documents country, city, locality, postcode, coordinates and timezone, plus a confidence level and estimated confidence-area polygons.[1]
ASN and network
The network object includes BGP prefix, registration context and announcing carrier ASNs, with upstream-carrier information when available.[1]
Privacy signals
The full endpoint's Hazard Report includes known proxy, VPN and Tor flags, hosting likelihood, cellular, iCloud Private Relay and blocklist indicators. Package plans, including Base, provide all endpoint fields.[1][2]
Access and free use
The IP Geolocation package requires an account API key, including its free 10,000-request monthly Base tier. No card is needed. Terms limit Base Access to one account per organization.[3][2][4]
Billing unit
Plans meter requests monthly. Bronze is USD 29.95/month for 100,000 requests, excluding tax; optional overages are USD 2.995 per 10,000 requests.[2]
IP versions
The full endpoint accepts IPv4 and IPv6 input addresses.[1]
Free API package distinction
The separate no-key Free APIs package is intended for browser/client calls. Its access model is different from the key-based IP Geolocation Base tier.[3][4]

Billing: The IP Geolocation package uses monthly request quotas. Base includes 10,000 free requests; Bronze includes 100,000 for USD 29.95/month, with optional overage pricing. All package fields are available at each tier.

getting started

documentation reviewed
  1. Create a BigDataCloud account for the IP Geolocation package and obtain its API key; new keys may take up to 10 minutes to propagate.
  2. Choose the location-only or full confidence-area/hazard endpoint according to the fields needed.
  3. Include the key and a specific public IP. Preserve absent location data and parse separate polygon rings before mapping a confidence area.
  4. Set a monthly quota and overage policy; review the subscription's permitted-use and sharing conditions.

Requirements & limitations

  • The full endpoint table marks key as optional, while onboarding and terms require a key for the IP Geolocation package. Use the authenticated package workflow.
  • A confidence area is an estimate, not a boundary or guarantee. Confidence and area size have different meanings.
  • hostingLikelihood measures evidence of hosting origin on a 0–10 scale; it is not a probability that a person will act maliciously.
  • The reviewed terms do not state a noncommercial-only Base restriction, but they restrict competing services and place additional sharing/reuse conditions on Unlimited subscriptions.
