## Red flags

Aug 2021: Qurium traced part of a DDoS on Philippine rights group Karapatan to Bright Data IPs; Bright Data confirmed the IPs were its own but said it found no attack traffic. Jun-Aug 2026: Spur found Bright Data SDKs in most proxy-enabled LG and Samsung TV apps; both firms moved to remove such apps. Aug 2026: named with Suno in two copyright suits (N.D. Cal.); no rulings yet.

Bright Data, called Luminati Networks until 2021, is an Israeli web-data company. It sells residential, ISP and datacenter proxies, plus scraping, SERP, unlocker and browser APIs and datasets. Proxies can be bought pay-as-you-go or on monthly plans. Residential zones created after July 7, 2026 are open only to registered companies that pass a KYC check reviewed by a person.

## Trial & refunds

Bright Data's docs say new accounts get a one-time $2 proxy trial credit valid for 7 days, plus a $5 bonus valid for 30 days once a payment method is added (the card is not charged). Residential access needs approved business KYC, which is not available in trial mode, so the trial covers datacenter and ISP. Subscription fees are generally non-refundable, with exceptions decided case by case.
